Bar

Zacry’s / Watchful Mary, Cornwall

We were appointed by Watergate Bay Hotel to design Watchful Mary—a distinctive new bar concept positioned dramatically on the sea wall, overlooking the beach.

The building’s striking architecture and coastal setting played a central role in shaping the interior design. Exposed concrete formed the foundation of the material palette, celebrating the structural character of the space. To balance and soften the environment, we introduced a sculptural ceiling feature crafted from live-edge timber—its organic form inspired by the natural sand ripples found along the shoreline. Our scope included the design of bespoke furniture and careful collaboration with local suppliers and craftspeople to deliver a unique, site-specific result.

More recently, we worked closely with the client to repurpose the space, relocating the hotel’s main restaurant, Zacry’s, into the venue. This involved adapting the original bar into a striking open display kitchen, blending functionality with visual impact.
